Lil Dicky's Dave and Former "It Girl" Cory Kennedy
reactions to must-read articles and pop culture fare
dave (fx) about rapper lil’ dicky
I finally admitted to myself I have a crush on “Dave.” Rather than explain why, it’s best to witness his funny, awkward, endearing shtick yourself. The series revolves around a fictionalized version of Dave growing his rap career as Lil Dicky. In a show that’s filled with rapper cameos (including Young Thug and Gunna), it’s tough to separate my affinity for him from my rap fangirl self.
Rick Ross’ guest appearance in the third episode of Season 3 is one of the best. I’m biased since Rozay is, hands down, one of my favorite personalities to ever exist. I put that on god, wing stop, and that lemon peppahh!
We see Ross throwing up stacks at the strip club while Dave pretends not to be intimidated by the Teflon Don, and the scene ends with Dave walking away wearing Ross’ $250K chain by mistake. It’s an easy comedic foil to witness neurotic, but lovable, Dave and any seemingly hardened rapper together, but Ross played his part more convincingly than past guests.
The episode also features a particularly snacky looking Usher <3 (oops, my ‘elder millennial’ ass can’t say no) and Dave having an appropriately awkward run-in with Killer Mike. DO NOT miss the end credit cookout scene, set to Ludacris’ “Get Back” which still slaps, as they mug and dance for the camera. PURE JOY!!! Take me Atlanta, fam!
former internet “it girl” cory kennedy
Not sure how we all knew Cobrasnake’s photos (MySpace?), but in 2004 or whatever, I knew Cory Kennedy was supposed to be what we were supposed to want to look like, if we wanted to be cool in (white) hipster circles. In 2023, people have decided to call that “indie sleaze” (groan), but I’d define it as: fake-poor, malnourished, private college kid who has ripped jeans, an ironic mullet, and a closetful of American Apparel. Their MySpace profiles undoubtedly featured “Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and “Bulletproof” by La Roux.
The Cut’s article about her is mostly about the writer being annoyed Kennedy keeps using their vape. The sole image included is one taken by Cobrasnake from the early aughts, despite Kennedy saying she isn’t that person anymore. Most disgustingly, I learned that 20 year-old Cobrasnake met a 15 year-old Kennedy at a Blood Brothers show (if there’s ever a band of that era, it’s them) and shortly after they were dating. YIKES. Why is this brought up so casually? She really was a child then.

It took me 2-3 weeks to recover when I saw the Woodstock 99 doc, partially because I was upset I was part of the problem. Male-run media told us to attack every famous to barely famous young woman. We never questioned whether tabloid fodder was actually the woman’s fault, we just believed it to be. I was tricked into hating other women, which in the long run, only functions to keep all women down on themselves.
I hated Cory Kennedy for no reason. More aptly, I hated the portrayal of Cory Kennedy, as an internet it-girl that cute indie guys should all desire but whose eyes were telling a troubling story. Turns out it’s not her I hated at all. I know nothing about her actually. It’s Cobrasnake who forever deserves my hateful feelings.
