World Series shenanigans, lol sports
and let's preview 2024 album of the year list. hello, Machinedrum
a continuous mix of articles, shows, books, things + more worth raving about
this week: baseball fans do the most, a good unhappy, a book no one’s talking about, and who’s on your album of the year list? scroll to b2b to hear a dj’s hourglass method
Crowd Interference lol
So, idgaf about the World Series or sports but holy hell I love this so much:
Look how hard butthole on right is gripping the wall not to mention Mookie Betts’ wrist. Let’s take a closer look at ruthless crooked hat boy in action:
Ferocious little teeth like a doggy. Didn’t we all go to high school with this guy? He’s prying open the mitt!! Lol foh! They’re such toolbags! I can’t stop laughing.
Cheerful Dissatisfaction
Celine Nguyen’s ‘stack is one of my faves. In this she writes how creativity is about forever seeking improvement. It includes inspirational quotes from Ira Glass and Lydia Davis and it’s also just fantastically formatted. Plus, she always has links to good reads on sites that I never knew about. When she mentions “discipline, aspiration, and revision” it reminds me of the absolutely bonkers creative process and rules Machinedrum outlined for himself in making his latest album - video is at the bottom of this post.
I read a book!
This is the only fiction I’ve read this year (! 😳). The Details is a plotless novel broken into chapters named after people the bedridden, feverish narrator has known in her life. You’re gonna want a pen nearby. You’ll find yourself needing to underline sentences so true and perfectly worded you have to get up, pace around and look skywards in wonderment at how someone can capture human existence with this precision. Example:
We live so many lives within our lives—smaller lives with people who come and go, friends who disappear, children who grow up—and I never know which of these lives is meant to serve as the frame.
It’s 144 pages. I finished it and almost flipped to page 1 and reread it right then. It’s plenty to mull over.
